The Queen of Magic Inspires a Musical

Neyla Pekarek, a musician who was formerly with the popular folk-rock band The Lumineers, now has a solo career, and her latest record is an ode to Adelaide Herrmann.

The Queen of Magic consists of five songs, and came about because Pekarek is working on a musical about Adelaide with the writer and actor Gabrielle Mirabella. “Musicals can be a lengthy process, so this was my way of dealing with my idle hands as we work on the show, and also as a way to get the music into people’s ears and drum up excitement for an eventual production,” Pekarek told Digital Journal.

Pekarek added that she and Mirabella have been working on the musical for three years. “This story of Adelaide is a story about resilience, ambition, bravery, and above all, magic,” she said. “I hope it provides escape, comfort, and unabashed joy.”

There are no details on when the musical might make it into rehearsals or beyond, but Pekarek’s EP is already out in the world. Her five songs are titled “Fearless,” “Dream With Me,” “Never Enough,” “Get to Work,” and “Feed the Flame.” They’re available now on all relevant music services for your listening pleasure. Listen the the EP here:
