The Mueller Handling of the Tebe (Bertram) Change

A very visual color change.

Moritz Mueller
The Mueller Handling of the Tebe (Bertram) Change

Moritz Mueller developed an especially open and elegant handling of the Tebe Change, which today is more widely known as the Bertram Change. The original move was published in Bertram on Sleight of Hand (1983). Over the years it became a favorite among card magicians, and in the era of YouTube and social-media demonstrations it has become one of the classic visual color changes.

In addition to the original Tebe Change, Mueller’s approach was inspired by the very open handling of Joel Greenwood, published as the video download Catalyst (2017). Mueller’s treatment differs primarily in the mechanics of the steal and in the alignment phase, allowing the change to occur with minimal apparent cover.
