There’s a new show on HBO Max called Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. It’s a spinoff of the immensely popular sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, and centers on the owner of a comic book store, Stuart Bloom. Stuart lives in a sitcom-style post-Armageddon world (the truck-sized moths are played for laughs rather than fear) and is tasked with reversing said Armageddon through a device that Big Bang Theory nerds Sheldon and Leonard created.
Spoiler: It doesn’t go well. In the first episode of the series, we see Stuart and his pal trek across the wasted landscape of Pasadena to find the aforementioned device. On their way, they see a bedraggled version of Penn & Teller performing on a shanty-like “stage.” Penn, for his part, is juggling “two starving feral creatures” who bite his fingers. That doesn’t stop him, however, from picking up a third and exclaiming “Juggling three is profoundly stupid. Ow!”
Stuart’s friend gives Teller a dented tin of sardines and a can of something else, which exasperates Teller, although he takes the food as payment.
“Thank you!” Penn cries at the end of their cameo. “We are Penn & Teller, and we’ll be here until we’re dead!”
