On this day in 1961 beloved British comedy magician Tommy Cooper appeared on the television program Thank Your Lucky Stars. He wasn’t, however, performing his trademark comedy magic, or mixing up a bottle and a glass. Instead the appearance was as a singer, with the song “Don’t Jump Off the Roof Dad.” Featuring lyrics that, it is safe to say, would not be considered appropriate today, the song peaked at No. 40 in the U.K.’s official charts.
