Derren Brown has a new special coming to Channel 4 in the U.K. The six-part series has a working title of Derren Brown: Incognito and explores people’s prejudices via a “social experiment described as a reality show,” as Channel 4’s head of live events, Tom Beck, explained in a statement.
Here’s the premise: 10 individuals are set to live in a house (or building of some sort) for seven days. They all come from different walks of life and are given a label—soldier, priest, porn star—and they all think they’re in a game where they have to suss out the identities of the others without anyone finding out their own.
But here’s the catch: The guessing game they think they’re playing is a ruse. Instead, Derren has set things up so that every conversation will challenge the players’ preconceptions. There will reportedly be twists and turns, and with them the hope that the players (and the viewers) will gain empathy for one another and question their personal prejudices.
“This has been a fascinating new venture,” Derren said in a statement. “With my previous shows I’ve normally had a clear idea of how things will conclude, this was very different. It’s a show about how we form opinions, live by our labels, judge others by them. And what happens when all that’s removed. It was a beautiful and extraordinary thing to make.”
As for when we’ll be able to see the show? Channel 4 promises the show is “coming soon,” and there’s no news on whether Incognito will make its way to streaming or to audiences outside of the U.K.
