I’m proud to say that, creatively, I almost never finish what I start, not in the way that matters. Work gets delivered, deadlines are met, and projects find their way into the world, but internally nothing ever feels complete. I once read about an artist arrested for vandalizing his own painting in a museum. He was caught trying to add paint to a canvas he had already signed, explaining later that a single unresolved detail still tormented him. I understood him immediately.
Creatively, everything remains provisional: released, perhaps, but never truly finished or settled.
By now, you may be wondering what any of this has to do with magic. We’ll get there, but indulge me as we take a few necessary detours.
