This May, the 70th Eurovision Song Contest took place in Vienna, and a few of the acts incorporated magical effects to wow the audiences.
The group from Croatia, for example, used a pole levitation during the Grand Final to great effect, while Aurēlija Rancāne used a D’Lite to dramatically share that Latvia’s points were going to Czechia. Mentalist Lior Suchard had a cameo as well, and the Greek contestant Akylas had a magic trick in his performance where he used a body double to appear somewhere else onstage.
This isn’t the first time magic has appeared in Eurovision. Moldova’s 2018 performance, for example, used blocking that evokes the Mis-Made Girl illusion, Croatia’s 2011 song included a quick change, and Jüri Pootsmann’s 2016 song for Estonia had him do a Tenkai vanish and reproduction. Magic is everywhere, if you just look for it.
