Por arte de la magia was a Spanish television series that aired in 1982 and ran for 13 episodes, featuring, among others, Juan Tamariz. It is a wonderful piece of television. It reveals Tamariz’s enormous love for every aspect of magic, as well as his fascination with filmmaking.

Each episode was devoted to a particular subject—automata, fakirism, mentalism, and so on. The topics were explored through highly original filmed segments, presented by Ramón Mayrata from a cultural and historical perspective, and always enriched with plenty of humor, love, and charming little details by Tamariz.

This attention to detail has always impressed me enormously, especially when I have seen him discuss a subject at the Escorial gathering. He had the ability to think about magic more deeply than almost anyone else. His interest in, and analytical knowledge of, the history of magic, psychology, humor, and the impact of a magic trick allowed him to turn seemingly mundane things into something profound.
