Mago J used to perform a routine at his restaurant gigs in which a playing card was selected and then torn into pieces. All but one piece vanished, and the card reappeared restored in an impossible location. As proof, the torn piece matched perfectly.

The method involved secretly adding a torn corner from a matching duplicate to the pile of torn pieces. The problem was always where to store that piece. In the pockets, it got in the way of the other props, and body heat could cause it to deform. Other methods sounded good in theory, but failed in the practical conditions of daily table-hopping work.

So he came up with this utility device for secretly getting hold of a torn corner. He presented it for the first time at the Jornadas de Cartomágicas gathering in El Escorial, Spain, in 2024.
