When I talk about “recharging the battery” I am talking about how you keep the enthusiasm that you felt at the beginning of your journey into the world of magic. We all have strategies. It might be working on your character (a lifetime pursuit for some of us), writing new material for a new show, performing more, or perhaps just researching new avenues you might take. There are myriad options.
It’s a question that particularly arises when you have been on this road for some time. I have an advantage on a personal front as I have always adopted the approach of “the eternal amateur”; not doing this for a living removes some of the pressure, which helps me. But I am prey to the same conundrum. I myself like to think I have reached a certain level. And yet… well there’s that expression about yesterday’s box score, isn’t there?
Is there a solution?
