Eva Lydia Medley was born in 1862 in Australia. She met Kellar during his tours, and later came to the United States to appear in his show. They were married in 1887. Mrs. Kellar appeared in only a few of her husband’s illusions—never jumping out of a box, but adding a grand, elegant presence to the magic. Onstage she was featured with Kellar in an elaborate mind reading act, later called Karmos, in which she found cube roots, made difficult mental calculations, and identified the thoughts of spectators using an elaborate silent code that dumbfounded their audiences.
