In the 1970s, Abbott’s Magic produced a weird stage illusion called The Door that was unexpectedly high-tech. A wooden door onstage contained windows, small panes of clear glass, showing the dark background behind it. Slowly, gradually, someone could appear or disappear behind the window, as if fading in.
