The adage, “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” is perhaps never more apt than for John Shryock’s shiny, inexplicably dizzying hardbound collection of truly masterful work, Maestro. My singular frustration falls on the publisher, 3 Monkeys Publishing, a new company out of France. While their approach is admirably fresh, their execution takes away from strong routines. The cover and page graphics look suspiciously like AI and some fonts are unreadable. In contrast, inclusion of QR codes that link directly to performances of the author is very much appreciated.
