Blake Vogt: This is Blake Vogt and Dan White, coming to you live, Inventing Magic, Episode 2, starting a timer now for one hour. Let’s go.
Dan White: I’ll talk fast.
BV: I am sitting in my office right now with any item or object or building device you could probably imagine. You are sitting in your cool studio.
DW: It’s a bit of a mess right now. I pretty much have everything somewhere stashed away. I’ve got playing cards, obviously. I’ve got a silk, billets, Sharpies. Envelopes. Real Die.
BV: There’s mentalism in the air.
DW: There’s a mentalism twinge.
BV: Did I ever show you the thing I came up with, with a hat? The impromptu blindfold? You and I both wear this type of hat, right?
DW: I’ve always loved the idea of being able to take two pieces of Scotch tape and just tape the eyes shut because I feel like that’s really organic.
BV: [Tries it.] I’m placing it on my eyelid, and I’m taping it down. Oww. It’s funny because it’s so much less involved than very dramatic blindfold experiments. It’s almost like this is more real… does it look like I’m blindfolded?
DW: If you told me that you could see right now, I would want to go up and look. But I don’t think you could.
BV: I’m going to have no eyelashes after this call. Here’s a full trick concept. You blindfold yourself and have someone hold up an amount of fingers, three times in a row. You guess correctly. You guess three, then two, then one, right? And then you rip the tape off, and there are six eyelashes stuck to it.
DW: Do you have a needle? I’m just curious what it would do if you put a couple pin holes in there, in a black piece. I’m sure people have messed with that before.
BV: I can see clear as day. I’m reading the list on the paper. Gaff has a texture to it. I think that’s making it work. Hold up some fingers. Two, three, thumbs up.
DW: Alright, if you can tell me what this card is, then I think we just nailed a great method. Hopefully it doesn’t exist. I know that pinholes exist in cloth, but I’ve never seen it in tape.
BV: We might delete this episode and keep this.
