There is an old saying in theater that goes, “Don’t tell me, show me.” Later, it evolved into, “Don’t tell me, don’t show me, let me see it!”
Magicians have the tendency to overexplain things. It must be because we are giving a lot of directions and it has become a habit to explain things to the audience like what they saw, and how they should react to it. I think we should let them make up their own minds about what happened. Of course, if we orchestrate it right, most times the audience will arrive at the right conclusion without the need to have it forced down their throats. It’s just the most gentle way to do it, and as we know, every time people discover something by themselves, they will defend its veracity. It turns into a personal matter. On the other hand, if something is being forced on them, they question it.
