On this day in 1907, at a meeting of the nascent club, The Magic Circle at St. George’s Hall in London, Rule 3 was proposed. It added different classes of membership. Members would, in the future, be distinguished as M.M.C. (Member of The Magic Circle) or M.I.M.C. (Member of The Inner Magic Circle), and a designation that fell right in the middle: A.I.M.C (Associate of The Inner Magic Circle). The president of the club was then Nevil Maskelyne, after the first president David Devant had served from 1905 to 1906.
