February 11: Bill Larsen, Jr.

We mourn the loss of Bill Larsen, Jr., who died on this day 32 years ago, in 1993. As the second editor of Genii magazine (he took over for its founder, his father Bill, Sr.), he was the voice of Genii and the personality of Genii for many of us who grew up in magic. A founder of The Magic Castle, with his brother Milt and Bill’s wife Irene, and the president of the Academy of Magical Arts, Bill, Jr. was magic’s great host and magic’s great diplomat. He seldom spoke above a whisper, but he seemed to conduct the world of magic effortlessly and expertly as if merely flourishing his baton.
