It’s rare that one magic event can subvert so many of your expectations all at once. A convention implies something live and I was expecting one of those live streams with magicians joining from home with varying levels of audio and video quality. Plus, there’d be hosts interacting awkwardly with real-time chat windows, and the contents may or may not be preserved for those who watch later. I think we’d all become rightly sick of those five years ago.
Instead, this was a fully produced and edited—I almost said DVD, but that made me feel old—download. Every segment but one (Derren Brown) was filmed in a studio setting with multiple cameras and with impeccable video and audio quality. These studios were located around the world; this production clearly took months to assemble. It includes 17 tricks, four short theory talks, an interview with Derren Brown, and one self-described rant.
