The $100 Challenge

We gave $100 to Magic Castle Juniors member Skyler Jade of Los Angeles, California, and asked her to buy any current trick or tricks that appealed to her.

Skyler has been part of the Juniors program since she was 14 in 2019. She’s currently attending the University of California, Berkeley, studying Film and Media. Her specialty has been walk-around magic, and she’s been performing at two different restaurants during her time at university.

This semester, she’s been studying in Melbourne, Australia, and has been doing some walk-around work there. “Magic is such a great way to express myself,” she says. “It also allows me a chance to separate myself from my school work, to focus on something that’s challenging and enjoyable.”

She finds herself gradually moving to different types of shows, and hopes to develop performances for stand-up, parlor, and the stage.

She ordered MagSwitch by Patrick Kun. She also ordered the Mystery Card Box by Henry Harrius. Both can be used to reproduce a signed, chosen card.

Skyler first met Kun while attending an event where he was hired to perform. “He was very nice, and I liked his style of performance.” Having experimented with some of his and Harrius’ previous magic, she “had a sense of both creators and what they do,” recognizing that they had developed well-made products.
